cicada,coins,birds and mythical knot on the surface. Reverse, is
the Chinese auspicous words like "FU GUI CHANG SHOU"-prosperous
and longevity on the base. Others incised words are;
Wu
Shen-(right 1) represent the year of 1908 in Chinese calander.Last
year in Guangxu reign. Wu
Ye-(right 3) represent the month of June in Chinese calender. |

A
very rare treasure found from Tek Sing shipwreck (c.1821),Indonesia
in very good condition. This artifact could be part of the merchandise
item that specially ordered by South East Asia Chinese merchant
as the quantity found is very limited. In 19th century, wealthy
Chinese traders often had their own opium "corner" in their home
when the drug could be imbibed in comfortable and luxurious surrounding.
The bowl were place in a wooden rack for opium heating. The unglaze
bowl is being decorated with incised flower motif at the top and
base while 2 extremely fine "ruyi cloud" design circulating
at bowl side. Coral encrustation still visible at the base. |
