B&W Dragon Bowl-Wanli
An
excellent piece of Ming Dynasty, Wanli period (AD1573-1620) with
vivid cobalt blue bowl decorated of two "Chilong" at the
external wall. Another flying Chilong appeared in the centra of
bowl. During Ming dynasty, dragon became the most respectful mytical
beast and also a symbolic of Emperor court. Therefore, the traditinoal
dragon drawing & art work is strictly prohibit unless with court
order. "Chilong" is a common dragon drawing on folk ware
during Ming dynasty. There is a common mark of Wanli period fork
ware mark at the base. Except for a tinny harline crack of 2.5cm.
This is indeed a very beautiful & fine piece folk ware that
hardly remain after 500 years and should be well preserved by serious
collectors.
