An authentic and rare
example of Liao dynasty low fire stoneware inspire by leather wine
flask that decorated under transparent crackle amber glaze. Liao
dynasty form parallel to Northern Southern dynasty which located
at far northern part of China.
The flask vessel has
beautiful amber glaze that flow unevenly from the finger pinched
handle downward and stop short unevenly near the base. Reddish,
course and impurify clay visible from the unglaze foot rim and base.
This shortfall has been overcome by Liao potter by applying a white
slip on the pottery / porcelain before it was glazed which result
in better and more presentable product.
Excavation artefacat
remain in its original unclean condition, very strong earth smell
when the unglaze base contact with water and is very good water
absorbtion. Well balance shape and comfortable to handle. Slight
mat glaze on part of the body. Under natural sun light, iridescent
visible on the shining glaze surface.
The condition is almost
excellent; a tiny unglaze spot at mouth rim follow by a short firing
crack between the handle and spout. A few glaze fritting spotted
on the crackle glaze body.
This is extremely rare
gem that you can find in this condition nowaday !!!
