extremely beautiful and rare Ming dynasty,Jiaching reign (AD1522-1566)
baluster vase (meiping) in vibrant cobalt blue of two dragons chasing
the pearl motif amoung the cloud at the center. A ban of 'ruyi"
motif at the shoulder while the foot was decorated with "ren"
motif cloud. Glaze stop short to the slanting foot rim and original
firing red reveal at unglaze biscuit.
Condition:Superb
condition with glossy glaze and vibrant cobalt blue. 2 tiny firing
dust stick on the glaze. No repair, chip, hairline or restoration.

Meiping has being used as wine vessel during Sung dynasty. However,
during Ming dynasty, meiping became symbolic of status instead of
storage jar and used to be an important burial ware to Duke, High
Rank Official, Noble family and Merchant. There are almost 300 meiping
from various Ming dynasty's tomb excavation being display at Quilin
Museum where large proporion attribute to Jiaching~ Wanli reign.
This is indeed an important study piece that hard to found nowaday. |
