B&W Dragon Bowl-Wanli
An
excellent piece of Ming Dynasty, Wanli period (AD1573-1620) with
vivid cobalt blue bowl decorated of two "Chilong" at the
external wall. Another flying Chilong appeared in the centra of
bowl. During Ming dynasty, dragon became the most respectful mytical
beast and also a symbolic of Emperor court. Therefore, the traditional
dragon drawing & art work is strictly prohibited unless with
court order.
Chilong
is a common dragon drawing on folk ware during Ming dynasty. There
is a common Wanli period folk ware mark at the base. High glossy
glaze remain. Except a small star shape firing crack at the base
and tiny glaze chip at foot rim, it was almost in excellent condition.
No other chi, hairline and restored. This is indeed a very beautiful
& fine piece folk ware that hardly remain after 500 years and
should be well preserved by serious collectors.
