A
late 19th century Qing dynasty, Tongzhi period (AD1862-1874) scholar
table brush pot painted with vibrant coral ground glaze and decorated
with the scene depicting crane. It has a very decorative gilt floral
scrolls and Chinese characters peom at the body. There is a "Liew
He Xin Chi " potter mark at base. This type of coral ground series ware
was fond by strait Chinese once living in Penang, Melacca and Singapore.
There have special order from China potter as house decoration item.
However,
no many of these item survive thru time and you may spot it in the
Baba & Nyonya ( Straits Chinese) descendent's house or Peranakan
Museum nowaday.
A similar hatstand vase also feature in " Peranakan Chinese Porcelian", ISBN:9780804840071, written by Datin Kee Ming-Yuet, one of the Malaysian prominance collector in Straits Chinese (peranakan porcelain).In fact, hatstand in coral ground is very rare in Straits chinese ware as most hatstand of late 19th century decorated in famille rose pattern.
Very
good condition though there is some glaze rubbing on the mouth rim
gilt and body. A small minute noted at the reverse side of the mouth rim. No others chip, hairline and restoration noted.
